One of the biggest challenges when tackling climate change and the overuse of plastic is trying to make changes to big companies and industries, that largely contribute to this issue.
On the 3rd of September, KAP was invited to talk to a company called Seymour, where we discussed ways to help make their company (and others) more sustainable. The main theme of the meeting was to find alternatives to the covermounts, on the front of magazines. They are made of plastic and include plastic toys that tend to break easily and not be recycled well. We heard from a range of other sustainability groups and other members from supermarkets and magazine distributors, and they also allowed us to share our ideas.
Amy and Ella made great presentations about climate change and why we need to act now, and Inaaya spoke about the work she does at her school to make it plastic clever. One idea, suggested by me, was to use Ecosia a tree-planting search engine, that they have now introduced this to their company, and would like to try to introduce it to more.
We hope that with every meeting we will become closer to making our world more sustainable.
